Synopsis
A whimsical music-box castle owned by a friendly giant is home to Eureeka, a young apprentice sorceress, and a handful of puppet companions who turn ordinary days into small-scale adventures. Playful dragon Magellan, clumsy bat Batly, and bickering troll siblings Bogge and Quagmire join her in stories that weave together songs, games, and gentle moral lessons aimed at preschool audiences.
Context & Trivia
The puppets were designed and built by Jim Kroupa, John Orberg, Kip Rathke, and Matt Stoddart at 3/Design Studio, with the Henson Muppet performance style as their explicit technical reference: all characters were operated live on set by a team of puppeteers with extensive television experience. Brian Muehl (Bogge) and Pam Arciero (Quagmire) had each previously performed Grundgetta, Oscar the Grouch's girlfriend on Sesame Street, and Muehl was also one of Elmo's earliest performers. Noel MacNeal, who brought Magellan to life, and Jim Kroupa, who operated Batly, would later reunite on Bear in the Big Blue House.
The series also carries one of the starker preservation losses in puppet television: the master tapes of the original hour-long episodes were erased shortly after the show left Nickelodeon in 1996. The half-hour edits—assembled from clips of the first two seasons for international distribution—are now the definitive, and effectively the only surviving, version of the series.
