Synopsis
Sooty, Sweep and Soo join Richard Cadell for a Christmas celebration built around the same pranks and magic tricks that have defined the characters for decades. The yellow bear works in silence, Sweep contributes his trademark disorder, and Soo does her best to hold things together. The special includes festive clips not previously seen on television.
Context & Trivia
The three lead glove puppets each have a distinct vocal identity: Sooty communicates entirely through gesture and never speaks; Sweep produces his squeaky voice through a saxophone reed the puppeteer holds in their mouth; and Soo is voiced by Brenda Longman. That range of puppet voices within a single glove-puppet cast is one of the most recognisable technical signatures of the Sooty universe. Harry Corbett created the franchise in 1955, and Richard Cadell acquired the rights in 2008, taking on both the performance and the stewardship of the original puppets. This special belongs to the series produced between 2011 and 2018, filmed at Brean Leisure Park in Somerset, and was released on DVD.
