Synopsis
Yababu! is a children's programme aimed at preschool children from 0 to 6 years old. On screen, the main characters are Yab and Abu, two curious and funny puppets interacting in a minimalist environment set against a black background. Their creative universe is showcased through a universal language using animations, handicrafts, physical gags, and discovery capsules featuring images of the world. Whenever conflicts arise, the characters use emotional intelligence as their main tool to resolve them.
Context & Trivia
The production design is intentionally simple to prevent distractions: the puppets feature bright colors (Yab is orange representing energy; Abu is lilac for serenity) and the props use soft tones over a black background. The show was recorded using a chroma key setup, and the virtual environments were created during post-production using After Effects. As for its legacy and trivia: The main creators and puppeteers, Miguel A. Del Olmo and Lores Marcó, have over 25 years of professional experience. Their television and film background spans from classics like TVE's "Los Lunnis" and Cuatro's "Los Algos", to recent projects such as "Lunnis de Leyenda", the movie "La gran aventura de los Lunnis", and characters like Nacho Mapacho (Clan TV), as well as major ad campaigns for brands like ALDI. Yababu! first premiered on the Internet in January 2011 and achieved significant recognition, winning the INVI Award for Education (RTVE.es and Red.es) and the Ciudad de la Luz Special Award. The production company Sinilos, which originally started as a theater company in 2000, underwent a complete rebranding in 2026 to become Sinilos Puppet Studio. That same year, they launched PuppetHunt.tv, establishing the world's largest audiovisual database dedicated exclusively to puppet productions.
