Synopsis

The famous Pets.com sock puppet, now working for Bar None, turns up at a used car lot. The puppet interacts with a salesman and other characters while promoting Bar None auto loans, emphasizing that "everyone deserves a second chance."

Context & Trivia

The Pets.com sock puppet, an icon of the dot-com era, was acquired by Bar None in 2002 for $125,000 after Pets.com went out of business in 2000. Bar None, a car financing company, used the puppet for their advertisements with the slogan "Everyone Deserves A Second Chance," nodding to the puppet's own "second chance" after Pets.com's failure. While comedian Michael Ian Black was the original puppeteer and voice for the Pets.com puppet, the Bar None commercials featured a different puppeteer, resulting in a more refined manipulation style. The Pets.com sock puppet was a highly popular character, even having a float in the 1999 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and appearing on Oscar coverage for Good Morning America.
