El Cau de les Feretes

The five characters are the 'espantacriatures' (folk bogeymen) from the children's series 'El Cau de les Feretes', which premiered in 2018 on Valencian public broadcaster À Punt and was produced by Famazing Entertainment in collaboration with Cercavila Produccions. The puppet designs were created by Gabriel Serrano, art director and executive producer, with the series directed by Rafa Piqueras. The figures are muppet-style puppets — articulated mouths and rods — built using the classic Jim Henson technique and performed from below by professional puppeteers including Nelo Gómez, Isabel Martí and Juanma Picazo, who work in complex off-screen positions and use TV monitors to keep track of the camera frame.

The cultural reach of these puppets in the Valencian Community ran deep enough for À Punt to produce and sell official plush replicas of all five characters. The original production puppets were later donated to the MITA (Museu Internacional de Titelles d'Albaida), where they are now on permanent display alongside other landmarks of Spanish children's television such as Babalà and the Electroduendes from 'La bola de cristal'.
