Synopsis

Otis, the beloved puppet star of a long-running children's television show, arrives at the program's 300th episode in the grip of an existential crisis that ends with him jumping off a bridge in Los Angeles. He wakes in a surreal workshop, face to face with the puppeteer who made him — a man carrying his own weight. The eighteen minutes that follow are an intimate reckoning between a broken puppet and the hands that might fix him.

Context & Trivia

Otis exists across two simultaneous layers of performance: Jonathan Kite voices the character and embodies his human form, while puppeteer Amanda Maddock — credited as 'Otis Puppet Performer' — handles the physical manipulation of the puppet on set. Splitting a single character across voice, human presence, and puppet performance between two distinct performers is an uncommon technical and creative choice in short-form auteur filmmaking, and places Otis among the more formally ambitious puppet characters in recent festival cinema.
