Synopsis
Puppeteer Stacey Gordon visits Adam Savage’s workshop to give him a practical lesson in on-camera performance. The session progresses from eye focus and mouth movement while speaking to posture, walking and arm coordination, giving Adam a physical demonstration of how difficult it is to keep a character alive.
Context & Trivia
Stacey Gordon, founder of the Puppet Pie studio and performer of Julia on Sesame Street, teaches on-camera hand-and-rod technique. The demonstration uses figures made by Gordon, Gordon Smuder, James Wojtal and Blank Puppets; Michael Schupbach served as puppet wrangler during the shoot. A monitor lets the hidden performer assess framing, eye line and synchronization.
