Magic
Trailer
Synopsis
Corky Withers, a struggling magician, finds success by incorporating Fats, a foul-mouthed ventriloquist dummy, into his act. However, Corky's rising fame is threatened when Fats appears to develop a malevolent personality of its own. As Corky's sanity deteriorates, the dummy manipulates him into committing terrible acts, especially when he tries to rekindle a romance with his high school sweetheart, Peggy Ann Snow.
Context & Trivia
The Fats dummy was created by puppet maker Dennis Alwood. Anthony Hopkins trained in ventriloquism for the role and voiced and operated Fats himself on screen, rather than working with a separate puppeteer — an unusual case of an actor performing his own ventriloquism for a film.
