Synopsis
It's Tutter's birthday, and while the little mouse mopes around convinced he's been forgotten, Bear and the rest of the Big Blue House gang are busy behind his back: Ojo bakes the cake, Pip and Pop string up the decorations, and Treelo does his best to wrap the present. The main characters appear as live puppets on stage—built by Jim Henson at 30% larger than their TV counterparts to be seen from a distance—while Ray, Shadow, and Luna are projected on a large screen. Based on the series episode 'Mouse Party,' the show also features original songs and segments with real children.
Context & Trivia
This VEE Corporation stage production, which toured across the United States and Canada between 2001 and 2002, is the only live 'Bear in the Big Blue House' work ever released on home video. For the show, Jim Henson's puppets were built 30% larger than their TV counterparts, allowing the characters' expressions to be visible to audiences in large arenas. The show is based on the 'Mouse Party' episode of the original series and was a popular tour that brought the beloved characters to interact directly with fans. Noel MacNeal, the original puppeteer for Bear, also participated in this live production.
