Synopsis
Every Friday, Fozzie Bear takes the stage at a comedy club and unloads a barrage of terrible jokes on an audience made up entirely of fellow Muppets. The crowd responds with predictable contempt — hooks, trapdoors, nets, and flying objects included. Bobo the Bear, Beauregard, the Chickens, and Pepe the King Prawn make occasional appearances to compound the mayhem.
Context & Trivia
The series came out of a collaboration between the Muppets and YouTube Space LA, shot entirely in March 2015 and premiering that May. For the following six months, a new episode dropped every Friday on the Muppets' official YouTube channel and on Disney.com, accumulating at least 25 installments.
The absolute center of every episode is the Fozzie Bear puppet — the orange-brown, derby-hatted, polka-dot-tied comedian who has occupied the role of the Muppets' well-meaning fall guy for decades. Since 2002, Eric Jacobson has been the primary puppeteer behind Fozzie, having taken over from Frank Oz, who originated the character and performed him through 2000. By placing Fozzie front and center for virtually the entirety of each short, the series works as a concentrated showcase for Jacobson's performance with that specific puppet.
