Synopsis

Three young Muppet monsters, Tug, Boo, and Molly, are sent to the basement of the Muppet mansion and decide to create their own television station. Their show features live-action puppet segments, animated cartoons of classic Muppet characters, and stock footage. The series was conceived as a companion to "Muppet Babies," forming an hour-long programming block called "Muppets, Babies and Monsters."

Context & Trivia

"Jim Henson's Little Muppet Monsters" was an attempt to expand the Muppets' presence on Saturday morning television, combining new puppet characters with animated segments of classic Muppets. The three main monster characters, Tug, Molly, and Boo, were performed by Richard Hunt, Camille Bonora, and David Rudman, respectively. Michael K. Frith was the conceptual designer for the new characters, and the main puppets were built by Ed Christie (Tug), Joanne Green (Molly), and Rollie Krewson (Boo). The series also featured veteran puppeteers such as Jim Henson (Kermit the Frog, Dr. Teeth), Frank Oz (Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Animal), Jerry Nelson (Floyd Pepper), and Dave Goelz (Gonzo, Zoot). The production of the series was troubled, as Marvel Productions had difficulty delivering the animated segments on time, leading to the show's cancellation after only three aired episodes. Despite its short run, the series is notable for being one of Jim Henson's few productions that combined live-action puppetry and animation, and for providing an opportunity for younger puppeteers to showcase their skills.
