Synopsis

The StoryTeller: Greek Myths is a four episode mini-series starring Michael Gambon as the storyteller, Brian Henson as Dog and creatures from Jim Henson's Creature Shop. The series first aired in the UK in 1990.

Context & Trivia

Produced by Jim Henson Productions in 1990 — one of the last projects Jim Henson oversaw before his death that May — this four-episode spin-off reworks Greek myths instead of the European folk tales of the original series. Michael Gambon takes over as the Storyteller from John Hurt, while Brian Henson returns to perform and voice his dog. Written by Nigel Williams and directed episode by episode by John Madden, David Garfath, Tony Smith and Paul Weiland, the series casts David Morrissey, Jeremy Gilley, Art Malik and Derek Jacobi as the heroes of Theseus, Perseus, Orpheus and Daedalus. NBC, which had broadcast the original Storyteller, declined to air Greek Myths; it premiered instead in the Netherlands in April 1991 and reached the UK in December 1991.
